Can I grade coins myself?

I have some morgan dollars I'd like to ebay. Can I grade them myself, or do I have to have a coin collector do it?

Nobody was born knowing how to grade coins. Everybody that does it had to learn it at some point, and so can you.

If you've got just a few coins you'd like to grade, probably the easiest thing is to compare your coins to ones that have been graded by experts. You can go to http://www.pcgs.com/Photograde/# and select the type of Coin You want to grade (from your question, Morgan dollars).

Once you've selected them, compare each of your coins to the photos, and find the one that most closely matches the coin you're looking at, and you'll know what grade you've got. If your coin is between two of the grades, then your coin is the lower of the two grades.

If you've got a collection that you'd like to grade, then a book is an excellent idea, and the more coins You Grade, the better you'll be at it. But if it's a one-time thing, comparing the coins to the PCGS photos is quicker, easier, and free.
